Also, North Lake Charles is around 13-20 feet above sea level. There are some great historical homes and I think you'll start seeing a renewal with the Golden Nugget and Sasol expansions. A lot of the workers will be men that have a choice of a mancamp near Sowella (bad area) where they have to take a bus that will take 30 minutes or getting a really cheap house in North Lake Charles 10 minutes from their plant in Westlake. I think with the upcoming $20 billion of projects, the rising tide will lift all boats. Now, go visit Sulphur or South Lake Charles and it looks much better. Don't get upset at me for saying that, just go look at all the blighted unkept property in that area! Many have considered North Lake Charles for redevelopment ahead of the upcoming construction boom but walked away after seeing the poorly kept yards and litter in the area.
To be honest the North side of Lake Charles is a victim of poor real-estate management.
